My name is Jean Arena, I am 84 years old and, as you can see by my bio, I was in Show Business practically all my life. Now naturally I have had to slow down. The condominium where I live has a clubhouse where I put on a play once a year. I direct and act in it.

What I am really trying to convey to all of you senior citizens everywhere in the World is, even if you can't or think you can't act, don't be afraid; give it a try. You will love it. It's fun. You'll forget about all your problems including aches and pains. It helps you to understand people from all walks of life. It is very therapeutic!

I would like to mention an organization called, "The Seed Foundation". It is a wonderful organization and it helps so many people. I met Carl Pizzo, the Executive Director, through friends. Let me tell you, he is working so hard to make it known so that senior citizens, like myself, can enjoy the company of others and make life more enjoyable with Program, like I am working with at senior citizen centers called, 'In The Light'.

I would like to mention how you can get started. Here are a few suggestions:

1. Go to your Senior Citizen Center and get a few people from there. When you ask the seniors, you will be surprised in the interest. After all, who wants to sit around all day! Once the word is out that you are looking for Stars and Starlets, faces start smiling and excitement starts building.



2. Now, have a meeting there, or in your own home, if you can.



3. Then, get a script of a play, read it and see who would like to play the different parts (be prepared to delegate gracefully).



4. Practice a few times. You will see much laughter and happiness. I love this togetherness and life seems to sparkle once again.

I am sure this is great for one's health and could almost vouch that it makes you younger. This is a great way to get started and a lot of fun!

Now it's time to bring your production 'In The Light. You will find many accommodating outlets like local libraries, centres and churches (don't forget if your condominium has a clubhouse like mine where I put on a play once a year). You will find many will actually help with music, lighting, seating, etc.
