December 4, 2006

Dear [Huntington Social Service Agency Administrator]:

Huntington ICAHN is an interfaith coalition of 20 congregations that is addressing the need for affordable housing in Huntington as a moral imperative. This mission has caused us to confront one of the most serious impediments to affordable housing in Huntington - racial and class prejudice. Last year, we focused, from a faith perspective, on racial segregation in Huntington.

This year, we are conducting a year-long examination of conscience on the persistence of class prejudices in Huntington that contribute to our housing shortage. The project is designed to put a "human face on the working poor of Huntington." We invite your agency's participation in this project.

The centerpiece of our project will be a multicultural/interdenominational Martin Luther King prayer service and choir concert titled, A Blessed Community: Hearing Every Huntington Voice, on Sunday, January 14th, 2007, 6:30-8:30 PM at St. Hugh of Lincoln Church in Huntington Station. Immediately following the prayer service, we will host a reception at which local social service agencies like yours that serve struggling families in Huntington will exhibit their services. A health fair is also planned during the reception. Finally, we hope that each of our congregations will commit to one service in the winter/spring for a representative from one of these agencies to explain their services and to provide an opportunity for a client to give a witness talk.

We would be delighted if your agency would participate in the reception/ social-service exhibit on January 14th by taking a table to display resource materials about your services. There is no charge. Please return by January 10th the attached form to register for your table(s). We look forward to working with you throughout the year as Huntington's faith community works to break down class barriers in our Town.

Yours truly,

Richard Koubek, Ph.D.,
ICAHN Chairperson
